“I don’t want to take a lot of supplements. I want to take the right supplements.” —Rick “Rex” R.

Balance of Nature customer Rick, who goes by Rex, lives an active lifestyle and has always had a great energy level. He says his spouse, three adult kids, and two granddaughters are what help keep him healthy and happy.
Rex’s “Prefer-ment”
Rex retired for the second time at the beginning of the year, but he calls it by a different name.
“I kind of call it ‘prefer-ment’ because I do what I prefer to do,” he explains. “I had a couple of things I wanted to do. Family time has always been a priority, so spending more time with family obviously, but really getting into the best shape of my life, visiting those friends you haven’t seen for a while, spending more time with my folks. My folks live in Indiana. They’re getting older, so I want to make sure I spend time with them. I spend a lot more time with my granddaughters too. I’ve been so busy but I’m just doing the things I kind of put on hold for a while.”
Life is all about balance, he says. One thing Rex always tells his friends and family is that we don’t live to work, but we work so we can live.
“The most important thing is those hours you’re not at work—your personal time—and making the most of it: surrounding yourself with good people, spending as much time with those people you like, your physical health, both external and internal,” he says.
An Active Family Is a Happy Family
Rex says the important thing for him and his family is that they have always been active.
“All of us love working out,” he shares. “We all kind of do our own thing. We work out together, we walk together, run together. I do spin classes three or four times a week and then fill in with a couple of days of light weights. My daughters do yoga; one of them goes to spin with me frequently. My spouse does weights, my sons have trainers, so we all share this desire to stay physically healthy. We also all really watch what we eat, too. I would not say we diet, but we’re constantly adding things and taking things out to kind of keep that internal health there.”
Spinning is Rex’s preferred method of working out, and he loves the community.
“I love spin class. I love showing up as a part of a tribe, part of a group—I go to an independent gym and it’s amazing. People from all ages, all walks of life, and I think what we share is just this great community, and we want to show each other up. I don’t want to show up to spin class and just peddle. I want to be aggressive. I want to break out in a sweat. I want to get healthier.”
It’s important for him to feel young, too, which his grandchildren help with. He has always had good energy and doesn’t want to lose that.
“I really want to maintain that energy level and not just in how I show up, but in how I feel,” he shares. “So for me, the physical activity is critical in doing that. If I miss a workout for whatever reason, I don’t have the energy level that I want. So I make sure I get those workouts in. I think the same is true for our family. We talk about it, like when we all work out we’re at our best.”
Rex believes an active lifestyle feeds happiness, but it isn’t everything.
“I think, in addition to working out and the internal, like what you consume, is surrounding yourself with like-minded people, really positive forces. But all that is important: how I feel and how I show up has a lot to do with working out, diet, and the people you hang out with.”
Quality Family Time
Rex’s favorite thing is spending time with his kids. He feels fortunate that his three adult children live within 15 minutes of him and his spouse.
“They’re amazing,” he shares. “They’re just a blast to be with. It’s really important to keep your energy and your metabolism and everything going so that you can keep up with them. I think the favorite thing that our family does is probably hosting dinners here at the house. We just love getting together. Really, the times we spend with the kids are some of the best times—love our friends, love spending time with people, but if I had to choose who I’m going to go out with to a restaurant or have over, it starts with the kids.”
The Importance of Positivity
Rex and his family are also big on positivity.
“I think staying positive in your life and showing up as a positive energy is pretty rewarding,” he describes. “You can see it in people’s eyes. You know, you might be the only bright spot in their day. And so you never miss the opportunity to say thank you, to say please, to smile at someone, and as we like to say in our family: ‘It’s more important to be interested than to be interesting.’ So be interested in someone; you don’t have to show up being interesting. You never know what somebody is going through in their life. Our family has gone through some pretty tough times, and we’ve had some pretty great times, and we always remember those folks that were there just being themselves, just being kind of that light that you need.”
He adds that being positive is contagious and the more positive you are, the more people want to be around you.
“I want people to want to spend time with me. I spend time with folks that actually make me feel good, right? You never know, like I said, if you’re going to be that bright light in the day, you listen to a story, and they end up being great friends. My kids are the same way. They all have great energy, love to meet people, and I think that’s a common theme for the family. I think that’s something we’re proud of—that we’re all very positive.”
Life > Work
Another philosophy Rex’s family lives by is that they work to live; they don’t live to work.
He explains, “Sometimes we get so tangled up that the only thing we can think about is work. And I’m not saying that working is bad—working is great, and hopefully you can find a job that you really enjoy because you spend so many waking hours there. It provides an income for you to do those things you want to do. And so for me, that was an important saying or philosophy to share with the kids growing up, and I hear them repeat it today. And it does create more balance if you look at it that way. You also take the time, then, in your personal life, to make the most of it.”
His Balance of Nature Supplements Routine
Balance of Nature supplements are something Rex plans to keep in his routine for a long time. He started taking Balance of Nature supplements because he has always been on a high-protein diet and wanted more variety of ingredients of fruits, vegetables, spices, and fibers.
“You need a balance of ingredients of plant foods. I mean, my grandma told me that, my mom told me that, I preach that to my kids. I believe in it, and Balance of Nature supplements help me get more quantity of ingredients of fruits and vegetables.”
Rex has taken Balance of Nature supplements for almost five years and says he doesn’t want to stop!
“When I get up in the morning, I set out those supplement bottles. If I go to spin class, which I go three to four times a week, or if I’m working out, I’ll throw Balance of Nature supplements in my protein shake. It’s easy! If I don’t do that, then I would have it for lunch or dinner or before I go to bed. But literally, I don’t put those bottles away until I take them every day. They’re just a part of my routine,” he shares.
Rex loves how easy they are to take. He is a creature of habit, so once he gets attached to something, he doesn’t easily get rid of it. Balance of Nature supplements are one thing that has been part of his regimen for a while.
“I don’t want to take a lot of supplements. I want to take the right supplements.”
It’s Easy to Take and to Recommend
Rex says he can’t imagine not taking Balance of Nature supplements daily. “It kind of feels like cheating that I’m getting all these ingredients so easily.”
There is nothing to lose in taking Balance of Nature supplements, Rex says. “Recommending Balance of Nature to friends is pretty easy for me.”
