“Balance of Nature supplements make a lot of sense to me—putting ingredients of fruits and vegetables into a capsule and taking them daily. You know, it really makes sense.” —Kelly C.

Kelly is 62 years old and a dental lab technician. When he isn’t busy making teeth, he enjoys taking pictures, being in nature, and spending time with his grandkids.
Day-to-Day
Kelly’s an early morning guy. He wakes up at 5 a.m.!
“There’s a lot of peace when nobody’s there and I’m there alone. I can get some stuff done,” he says. “My internal clock just wakes me up at about 5 o’clock. I get to work about 6 o’clock in the morning. My work is busy. I’m a dental lab technician, so I make teeth, and each job that comes into the lab has its own case pan, and each of those case pans has its own due date and prescription of what we’re supposed to do. It’s a pretty busy day when I get into the lab because there’s so much to do—working from one case to the next.”
After work, Kelly and his wife will usually watch one of their nine grandkids’ sports games.
“It seems like my body clock shuts down at about 4 in the afternoon. It’s time to go. So I head home and me and my wife—we’re the only ones; we’re empty nesters—so I’m usually getting home by 5 o’clock. My wife has me scheduled to go to a soccer game or a baseball game, and we’re off. And we go watch our grandkids and, you know, that keeps us way busy with nine grandkids.”
There’s a Lot to Making Teeth
Kelly has owned a dental lab for forty years. His lab is one of the oldest labs west of the Mississippi, established in 1906. His days at the lab are “hoppin’” or, in other words, pretty busy.
“We are a digital lab, which means we’ve jumped into the digital era where we scan and mill crowns,” he explains. “You go to your dentist; you need a crown. The doctor will prep your tooth, and then he’ll scan that tooth and send an STL file to us. That goes into a digital system where we design it and send it to a five-axis mill that prints, or it actually mills a tooth from our design out of zirconia. Then in the morning, we stain and glaze it. We manufacture the models, prep them, and send them out to the doctors. We make dentures, we do flippers, implants. My son and I are the owners, and I’m responsible for the office, the billing to accounts, the management of accounts, the relationships with my doctors, so there’s a lot of variety.”
Many people ask him when he is going to retire. To that, Kelly says when his son kicks him out!
“I enjoy the work. I really do. Some mornings I’m anxious to get to work to just make teeth. It’s kind of strange, but I’ve been blessed to have a job that I really love, and we work with a lot of good dentists in the valley, and some guys I’ve been working with for 40 years. But my day is crazy busy, and my days go by quickly, and I think that’s good. I don’t get bored. There’s a lot to do.”
The Importance of Staying Active
Kelly has been active in sports his whole life.
“I started wrestling in junior high and in high school, and I had a wonderful coach who taught me how to take care of my body and be healthy. I learned this concept in junior high and when in high school, you know, as a wrestler, you are at such a high-level conditioning that you wouldn’t even want to drink a pop. I always had put in my mind to take care of myself, so I always ate well. I always felt like fruits and ‘an apple a day’ was important, so I did that. I followed a real clean diet, and I think that’s helped me with my health.”
He adds that he doesn’t feel 62. He still eats well and says he has his wife to thank for that.
“I still can do the things that—I mean, not as quick and not as fast and not as good as I could do when I was 25—but my health has always been very important to me. My wife’s the same way, and I think she probably helps me more than anything because every meal I have is a well-balanced meal,” he shares. “She gets mad at me if I have too many carbs. Or, you know, she’ll make sure that I have vegetables and fruit and things I’m supposed to eat. I can’t take total credit for it because my wife is amazing about eating the proper foods. I don’t drink alcohol. I don’t smoke. I don’t take drugs—I never have—and I think that’s helped my body to be strong.”
What he learned in wrestling—keeping his body strong—has stuck with him his whole life. Kelly also coached wrestling for some time.
“It was fun to just see these kids go through what I had done in high school and learn principles of taking care of their body and taking care of themselves. Really, what I’m trying to explain, because that’s on my mind daily: If I reach for a can of soda, my brain kicks in and says, ‘Nah, don’t drink that.’ So it’s interesting how it’s helped me through my life.”
Trying Balance of Nature Supplements
Kelly says he’s tried many vitamins from vitamin shops’ recommendations, but he never felt a difference despite how expensive they were. He kept seeing commercials for Balance of Nature supplements and decided to try it.
“I thought, you know, that really makes sense. I mean, I’m really pro fruits and vegetables, so I thought, well, maybe I’ll try these out. So I bought them, used them for a month, and I kept my membership going. I kept the supplements coming—I kept Balance of Nature supplements coming every month, and three or four months down the road, I thought, ‘Man, I think I better keep ordering it,’ and now I’ve been on them for over three years. So it’s been a while.”
He adds, “Balance of Nature supplements make a lot of sense to me. Putting ingredients of fruits and vegetables into a capsule and taking it daily. You know, it really makes sense.”
